Productsafety, validation, quality, compliance and testing.

These terms and responsibilities matter, but at its core the job is to make sure it works...and when it doesn't, to find out why.

  • Understanding the logic behind a design, not just its specs
  • Becoming the authority on a product's functionality well enough to identify what a failure is telling you
  • Researching the standards and writing the test plans that ensure compliance
  • Running the tests — or making sure an external lab has the equipment and understanding to return results worth trusting
  • Telling the design engineer, the production manager, and the customer what the data means for them — accurately, and early enough to act on
  • Turning what worked into procedures and systems, so the wheel isn't reinvented every project and results stay consistent

Troubleshooter

The problems I'm best at usually start with some version of: "We can't figure out why this is happening." It isn't about knowing more engineering principles or formulas than the next person. It's curiosity, pattern recognition, and a certain stubbornness about not accepting "we don't know" as the final answer, turning the problem over until I find another angle, another question, or the detail that doesn't quite fit. Over time that's made me the person teammates pull in when the obvious explanations are exhausted and the first fix didn't work.

I like being that person.

Upstream

R&D

Translate design intent into test strategy before the design freezes.

Program

Verification

DV/PV plans, schedules, and the evidence package the program runs on.

Downstream

Production

Process validation and end-of-line control operators can actually run.

External

Suppliers & labs

Certification bodies, witness testing, and corrective action across vendors.

Sustaining

Quality systems

SOPs, Traceability matrix and training that keep it compliant after launch.

Client Services

Program Management

Customer facing, delivering reports to stakeholders and on-site presentation/demos.

Experience

Lead Validation Engineer

Morey Corporation — Telematics, Contract Manufacturing

  • Lead Verification and Validation programs for new telematics products across multiple connectivity technologies, from test strategy through qualification evidence.
  • Author DV/PV test plans, run tests internally, coordinate third-party certification/testing labs and witness testing; assess failures and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Translate qualification data into executive summary reporting for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage Validation Department - hiring and onboarding engineers, assigning work across concurrent product programs

Senior Application Engineer

IKONIX USA (Associated Research) — Test systems for regulated manufacturing

  • Led deployment and qualification of production test systems at medical, industrial, and commercial manufacturers under IEC, UL, and CSA — customer-facing programs from specification through commissioning.
  • Served as primary technical liaison across customers, engineering, and manufacturing, driving defect resolution in safety-critical systems to root cause.
  • Performed on-site process audits and test system qualification at regulated facilities; the resource customers engaged ahead of audits.
  • Built the training function — classroom and on-site programs for engineering, quality, and production audiences across customer organizations.
  • Authored the manuals, SOPs, and calibration procedures that production, service, and calibration teams still work from.

Hazardous Locations Laboratory Technician

Underwriters Laboratories

  • Executed certification testing for hazardous-location and explosion-rated equipment under IEC, UL, and CSA.
  • Collected and reported compliance data under strict procedural and documentation control in an accredited lab.

ARoyals LLC — retail

  • Ran a storefront business end to end: hiring and managing staff, inventory and cash flow, and vendor relationships with Nike, Adidas, and Puma.

Building my own tools

Web development

I enjoy continually adding to my skillset, including web development. I look to innovate by creating modern solutions or automate otherwise outdated processes. I completed a full-stack development program at Northwestern in 2020 and have been building web applications since.

01 — Project

ikutraining.com

A learning management system for electrical safety training and certification, built for the kind of manufacturing and quality teams I spent ten years training in person.

Role-based access separating instructor and trainee views, course and enrollment modeling, and an admin interface for managing content — designed around the record that matters in a regulated environment: who completed what, when, and against which revision.
